Tips For Keeping Your Floor Warm

It is not a good feeling when you wake up in the morning and the floor is extremely cold beneath your bare feet. When it comes to flooring, some lose heat fast while others retain it better. Also, you can find certain products that insulate the entire area, making the floor warm and cozy.

Here are a few tips to increase the comfort of your surface coverings.
The Choice Of Flooring Materials
Not all flooring materials are the same, as some are colder or warmer than others. If you have a problem with your floor at home, you can use flooring materials that are warm underfoot.
  • Carpet. It is a common type of warm flooring material. You can place it in the living room, family room, and bedroom. Carpets that are thicker and longer tend to be beneficial in colder months. They protect the area from the outer chill and insulate the room at the same time.

  • Cork. It is a warm choice of material consisting of small air pockets, which fill the whole build structure. It prevents the cold air from penetrating inside and hot temperature from getting out.

  • Vinyl. This material is resistant to discoloration, water, and stain. It is a durable tile and requires low maintenance. Due to its thinness, it does not have any cold or warm features.

  • Laminate. With heat transmission, it is also a neutral material just like vinyl. Put a thin foam padding underneath the laminate to help warm up your floor.

How To Warm Up Your Floor
  • Insulation of floor and rim joist. Use fiberglass batt insulation to heat your floors. The rim joist spaces can be the source of the circulation of cold air through the cavities beneath the flooring. Make these floors warm by insulating the headers and rim joists.

  • Rugs. Using them is a traditional method to make your floors more inviting and warmer. You can strategically place an area rug to create a reading nook and conversation area.

  • Underlayment. Laminate, vinyl, and linoleum are resilient flooring options that can take on the temperature and feel of the flooring surface. If you put them on concrete flooring, they have the ability to inherit its cold properties.

Keeping your floors warm can remove the discomfort of cold surface and help the aesthetic look of your place too. Review your insurance for floor coverage.

I appreciate what you said about laminating vinyl. I need to get a floor heater to make sure that my feet don't freeze. I'll have to consider getting the bathroom heated since that is the coldest part in the house.
